Hormonal aetiology of rheumatoid arthritis
If not an aetiological agent, hormonal influences seem to have at least a modifying effect on rheumatoid arthritis. For example, pregnancy seems to have a dampening effect on symptoms and there may be a relapse after birth; oestrogen and its effect on inflammation are implicated.
