Ectopic sebaceous glands (penile)

Features:

  • ectopic sebaceous glands (of Fordyce) are common normal variants of the skin of the scrotal sac and penile shaft, but may cause concern in patients
  • ectopic sebaceous glands occur on the penile shaft in approximately one-third of men
  • ectopic glands occur as 1-2 mm papules and are more common on the ventral surface of the penile shaft. They appear to be unassociated with the hair follicle
  • unusual for the lesions to occur on the glans
