Insect bites

This is a cutaneous reaction to a stinging or biting arthropod, usually resulting in itching and occasionally acting as a vector of disease.

Clinically insect bites are generally:

• itchy
• urticated papules - there may be a central punctum; they may be excoriated; occasionally blisters are associated
• bites often occur in groups; often asymmetrical
• more than one family member may be affected
• may be secondary bacterial infection
• papular urticaria may occur as a complication of any insect bite(s)
