  • this influences treatment with topical steroids because of the variability in skin thickness at different sites of the body
  • in areas where the skin is thin (e.g. face, genitalia, intertrigous areas) then only a weak (e.g. hydrocortisone 1%) or moderate (e.g. clobetasol butyrate) topical preparation should be used - note that, in general, only weak topical steroids, if topical steroid treatment is indicated, should be used to treat facial eczema in children
