The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) guideline divides HPV-associated warts according to anatomical or morphological grounds into

  • common warts - verruca vulgaris
  • wart on the sole of the foot, plantar wart (Verruca plantaris)
  • flat wart or plane wart (Verruca plana)
  • genital wart (Condyloma accuminatum)
    • usually sexually transmitted (in children consider possibility of sexual abuse)
    • predispose to cervical, penile and vulval cancer
    • patients should undergo screening for sexually transmitted infections (1,2)
