Graves' disease is characterised by:

  • hyperthyroidism

  • diffuse goitre:
    • usually only moderately enlarged
    • thrill or bruit may be detected on account of increased vascularity

  • extrathyroid features:
    • Graves' ophthalmology - 40% of cases
    • pretibial myxoedema - 5% of cases
    • thyroid acropachy - rare
    • onycholysis - rare
