Differential diagnosis
Other causes of multiple cranial nerve palsies that can mimic this effect of mononeuritis multiplex include:
- nasopharyngeal carcinoma
- Guillain Barre syndrome - spares I and VIII
- chronic meningitis, e.g. sarcoidosis, tuberculosis
- brainstem lesions
- Arnold Chiari malformation
- trauma
- Paget's disease
