Conditions in which an increased dose of thyroxine may be required:
- increased thyroxine clearance:
- phenytoin
- carbamazepine
- rifampicin
- reduced intestinal absorption
- ferrous sulphate
- cholestyramine
- aluminium hydroxide
- increased concentration of serum thyroxine binding globulin:
- pregnancy
- increased body mass (1)
- reduced thyroxine clearance:
- aging
