Type 2 diabetes mellitus ( aims of treatment)
Diabetes UK recommended that treatment for type 2 diabetics should have the following aims (as a result of UKPDS findings):
- blood pressure of 140/80 mmHg or below
- HbA1c levels of 7.5% (58 mmol/mol) or below
- fasting blood glucose levels of 4-7 mmol/litre
- self monitored blood glucose levels before meals of between 4 and 7 mmol/l
