Criteria for referral

Authoring team

After immediate treatment, refer the patient as appropriate to:

- their own dentist: for routine follow-up

- an emergency dentist if the tooth requires immediate repair or reimplantation

- the local Accident and Emergency Department if there is a suspected jaw fracture or other injury transfusion likely to be needed and the emergency dentist is unavailable
