Prognosis
- if predisposing factors have not been corrected then risk of recurrence is high
- eradication is more difficult if previous open cavity mastoidectomy
- frequent cleaning with a cotton bud is not recommended as may lead to more chronic infection
- other factors leading to poor prognosis include
- persistent exposure to excessive moisture
- delay in receiving appropriate treatment
