Immediate:

  • airway patency, adequate ventilation, and overall stability of the patient should be ensured (1)
  • assessment of related injuries
  • control of epistaxis
  • inspection for, and treatment of, septal haematoma
  • cleansing and suturing of lacerations

Later - assessment and correction of nasal bone fracture:

  • is deformity present
  • is the patient concerned about any deformity
  • does the patient habitually fracture their nasal bones, for example, a boxer or footballer, in which case correction may be futile

Note that x-rays of the nasal bones are not indicated in isolated nasal bone fracture but should be requested if concomitant fracture to the nasal skeleton is suspected.
