Clinical features
Possible symptoms:
- nasal obstruction - unilateral or bilateral
- recurrent sinus infection
- recurrent serous otitis media - because of impairment of the ability to equalise middle ear pressure
Possible signs:
- lateral dislocation of the caudal end of the septum from the columella - causing narrowing of one nostril and a consequent narrowing of the opposite side because the septal cartilage lies obliquely
- septum may be convex to one side
Nasal septal changes are seen on examination of the nose with a nasal speculum.
