Subchondral haematoma of the ear is an important condition, usually resulting from some sort of shearing injury.
The haematoma prevents proper oxygenation of the cartilage, resulting in necrosis and a cauliflower ear.
Subchondral haematoma ought to be treated by drainage of the haematoma and firm packing of the injured area in order to oppose the cartilage and perichondrium. The compression bandage should be left on for a week.
