Aetiology
Causes include:
- haemolytic disease:
- Rhesus disease
- ABO incompatibility
- G6PDH deficiency
- spherocytosis
- congenital infection
- bacterial infection
Also consider:
- minor blood group incompatibilities
- other red cell enzyme deficiencies
- haemolysis secondary to a haematoma
- maternal autoimmune haemolytic anaemia - for example systemic lupus erythematosis
- transient familial hyperbilirubinaemia
- Crigler-Najjer Syndrome or Dubin Johnson
- Gilbert's syndrome
