Haemorrhage
Haemorrhage is recognised as an infrequent complication of cholecystectomy. The source is usually the cystic artery or the liver bed. One advantage of the postoperative drain is that bleeding can be detected early.
Haemorrhage, like a bile leak, can predispose the individual to a subphrenic abscess.
