High fibre foods examples
This is not an extensive list, but it gives an approximate guide to some foods high in unabsorbable fibre:
- whole grain and bran-enriched breakfast cereals e.g. muesli, especially no added sugar type, all bran, shredded wheat
- wholemeal bread
- other wholewheat products e.g. pasta
- other whole grains e.g. brown rice
- pulses e.g. kidney beans, chick peas, 'baked beans'
- potatoes ideally eaten with skins
- fruit and vegetables - these are a relatively poor source of fibre compared to grains and pulses
