Signs in the hands may reflect pathology in various abdominal systems:
- chronic liver disease:
- palmar erythema
- leukonychia
- asterixis
- Dupuytren's contracture
- clubbing in cirrhosis
- inflammatory bowel disease:
- clubbing
- pyoderma gangrenosum on the dorsum of the hand
- gut pathology causing iron deficiency anaemia:
- koilonychia
- pale skin creases
- renal disease with uraemia:
- twitch and tremor
- peripheral neuropathy
