Treatment
Most epigastric herniae should be repaired since small ones are likely to incarcerate and large ones are often symptomatic and unsightly. Usually, the defect can be closed primarily. The herniated fat contents are dissected free and removed. Intra-peritoneal herniating structures are reduced but no attempt is made to close the sac.
