The incidence of Hirschsprung's disease is one per 4500 live births, but is ten times more common in people with Down's syndrome. Males are affected three times more frequently than females.
The condition is inherited as a multifactorial trait with a male risk of 1 in 25 to sibs, and a female risk of 1 in 8.
