An inflammatory aneurysm is an AAA characterized by fibrous thickening of the peri-aortic tissues associated with a marked T, B and plasma cell infiltrate. The microscopic appearances are similar to those of chronic peri-aortitis and idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis. The fibrous tissue may extend to involve adjacet structures such as the ureters. Rupture is less common than with atherosclerotic AAA's.
