Management of tense ascites
The management of tense ascites i.e. referring to the feel of the abdomen due to elevated pressure involves:
- therapeutic paracentesis of 4-6 litres
- plasma volume expansion with albumin is used by many at the same time as therapeutic paracentesis
- further management is then as for non-tense ascites
