Correction of the underlying condition
The following conditions may be reversed:
- bacteraemia should be treated with parenteral antibiotics
- obstetric causes of DIC often require evacuation of the uterus
- vascular abnormalities e.g. aortic aneurysms or haemangiomata should be treated surgically
