Distribution of peptic ulcer
- 98 - 99% of peptic ulcers occur in the duodenal bulb or the stomach (usually, the antrum)
- duodenal sites are four times as common as gastric sites
- 10 - 20% of patients with a gastric ulcer have a concomitant duodenal ulcer.
Less common sites for peptic ulceration include:
- oesophagus - Barrett's oesophagus
- stomach, duodenum and jejunum - Zollinger Ellison syndrome
- Meckel's diverticulum
- gastroenterostomy stoma
