Differential diagnosis
- enteritis - accompanied by diarrhoea
- urinary tract infection
- neonatal intestinal obstruction from duodenal atresia, any other form of intestinal atresia, volvulus neonatorum; presence or absence of bile in vomitus depends on the site of obstruction
- pyloric sphincter spasm
- cranial birth injury or any cause of increased intracranial pressure
- overfeeding - the only feature is vomiting (which is not projectile and may contain bile)
- milk allergy
- adrenal insufficiency
- uraemia
