Exocrine insufficiency may be treated by a combination of a low-fat diet and pancreatic enzyme supplements, e.g. creon, pancrease.
Endocrine insufficiency may be treated by diet, oral hypoglycaemics or insulin as appropriate. Control may be difficult to achieve as patients may experience severe hypoglycaemia due to a lack of glucagon.
NHS guidance states "..most important thing you can do is stop drinking alcohol, even if it isn't the cause of your condition. This prevents further damage to your pancreas and may reduce the pain."

Morphine is not recommended as it constricts the sphincter of Oddi. However, in severe paroxysms, its potent analgesia may outweigh any risks of obstruction.
