Drug effects
Drugs may cause poor sleep and subsequent excessive daytime sleepiness:
- stimulants:
- caffeine
- amphetamines
- sedatives may cause sleepiness:
- some drugs directly cause sedation
- alcohol suppresses REM sleep and subsequent sleepiness is due to REM sleep deficit
- beta-blockers
