Examination
A standard physical examination is carried out with particular reference to:
- a thorough cardiorespiratory exam:
- hypertension
- dyspnoea, cardiomegaly, peripheral oedema
- cough, productive or not
- murmurs, documented or new
- hydration:
- skin turgor
- urine output, fluid intake
- blood pressure, pulse
- sites for intravenous access
- cervical spine - may require lateral radiograph - and lower jaw mobility
- loose or damaged teeth, presence of dentures
