Specific toxicities include:

  • cardiac - acute arrhythmias and chronic cardiomyopathies often caused by anthracyclines

  • pulmonary - acute and chronic problems, caused by bleomycin, alkylating agents and mitomycin C

  • hepatic - hepatocellular problems, caused by methotrexate

  • renal - both prerenal and renal problems caused by cisplatinum and ifosfamide

  • bladder - haemorrhagic cystitis, caused by ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide

  • neurological - encephalitis, peripheral neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy caused by vinca alkaloids and cisplatinum

  • skin - rashes, pigmentation and extravasation, caused by bleomycin, vinca alkaloids, anthracyclines

  • GIT - nausea, stomatitis, constipation, diarrhoea, caused by methotrexate and cisplatinum
