Classification by clinical severity or phenotype
The nature and severity of symptoms in beta thalassaemia depends upon a number of factors including the levels of Hb-A2 and Hb-F production.
Clinically the beta-thalassaemias can be divided into:
- thalassaemia major
- thalassaemia intermedia
- thalassaemia minor
