Primary chondrosarcomas usually begin as a central or medullary tumour which grows slowly for many years before discovery. Individuals tend to be over the age of 40 years and present with pain or a pathological fracture.
Secondary chondrosarcomas arise from malignant change in the the cartilaginous cap of an osteochondroma.
