Drug-induced dystonic reactions
Examples of causes acute dystonia include dopamine receptor antagonists such as:
- phenothiazines
- prochloperazine
- haloperidol
- metclopramide
The newer atypical antipsychotic drugs (e.g. risperidone, onlanzapine) are more selective for dopamine D2 receptors and therefore are less likel to cause these adverse effects.
