Epidemiology of abnormal uterine bleeding
Abnormal uterine bleeding and its subgroup, heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) are common conditions present in 14-25% of women in the reproductive age group (1).
- HMB is the predominant complaint in patients with AUB.
- one in 20 women aged between 30 and 49 years will consult their GP each year with HMB (2)
Around 800,000 women in the UK seek help annually for AUB.
- it is the fourth most common reason for referral to UK gynaecological services (1)
