Uterine retroversion
About 20% of women have a retroverted retroflexed uterus that is fully mobile. A retroverted uterus is difficult to palpate bimanually unless it can be pushed into anteversion via pressure on the cervix.
Rarely a retroverted uterus may cause urinary retention during pregnancy due to failure of the uterus to lift out of the pelvis at 12 weeks of pregnancy. Acute treatment involves urinary catheterisation. The problem usually resolves after 16 - 20 weeks.
