Risk factors
Risk factors for chilblains include:
- presence of cryoproteins, such as cold agglutinins and cryoglobulins – in children (1)
- excessive exposure to cold weather
- anorexia nervosa in adolescents (1)
- systemic lupus erythematosus in adults (1)
- reaction to medication (1)
- people who wear tight clothing during cold climates e.g. – horse riders.
