Organism:

  • usually E.coli.
  • others include klebsiella species, S. saprophyticus.

Clinical features:

  • usually pyuria
  • haematuria sometimes
  • an abrupt onset with multiple, severe symptoms (dysuria, urgency and increased frequency), lower back or suprapubic pain; on examination there may be suprapubic tenderness

Urine:

  • 10^2 to greater than or equal to 10^5 colony forming units per milimetre
