Pathogenesis of enuresis
The pathogenesis of bedwetting is not fully understood. Several disturbances in physiology associated with the development of bedwetting have been described:
- sleep arousal difficulties - ability to wake to noise or to bladder contractions are decreased
- polyuria - production of large amounts of urine during the night which exceeds the nocturnal bladder capacity
- bladder dysfunction - can be due to a small bladder capacity or overactive bladder (1)
