If giardia is confirmed or suspected – first-line therapy is often metronidazole but tinidazole or nitazoxanide may also be used. (1) ( Some guidelines recommend tinidazole or nitazoxanide as the preferred options but metronidazole is commonly used and widely available). (2)
Prevent - sanitary disposal of faeces, filtration or boiling of water. Cysts resist usual levels of water chlorination.
