Prognosis
Certain bacteria are associated with a particularly fulminating course:
- Meningococcus - Waterhouse-Friderichson syndrome
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Streptococcus pyogenes
Despite the introduction of new antibiotics etc, the mortality of septicaemic shock has remained high for the last 20 years at approximately 40-60%.
