The neurological complications of the sphingolipidoses may become apparent early in childhood:

  • hypotonia in the infant
  • developmental delay
  • ataxia
  • poor school performance
  • spasticity

Non-neurological features include:

  • renal impairment in Fabry disease
  • splenomegaly in non-neuronopathic Niemann-Pick
  • hepatosplenomagaly in Gaucher disease
