Travel risks of infection
Travel may predispose to infection via:
- injury: tetanus
- respiratory: diphtheria and tuberculosis (also unpasteurised milk)
- food and water: polio, typhoid, hepatitis A, cholera and traveller's diarrhoea
- mosquito and tick malaria, yellow fever, encephalitis, bites: dengue and haemorrhagic fevers and leishmaniasis
- animal bites: rabies, viral haemorrhagic fevers
- sex and drugs: STD's, HIV and hepatitis B
- other: meningitis, schistosomiasis
