Extensor digiti minimi is one of the deep muscles on the extensor surface of the forearm. It arises from the common extensor origin on the anterior aspect of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. It passes under the extensor retinaculum whereupon it divides into two slips which insert into the extensor expansion of the little finger.
Its action is to extend the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of the fifth finger.
Extensor digiti minimi is supplied by the posterior interosseous nerve, a branch of the radial nerve (C7,C8).
