Ischial bursitis

Authoring team

Ischial bursitis is an inflammation of the ischial bursa in the gluteal region. It is the result of excessive friction. Traditionally, it was an occupational injury of weaving where there was pressure on the buttocks at the same time as frequent extension of the hip.

Symptoms include well-localised pain over the ischial tuberosity.
