Temporomandibular joint pain
Pain from the temporomandibular joint can be caused by:
- Costen's syndrome (temporomandibular joint dysfunction)
- osteoarthrosis of the jaw
- rheumatoid and other arthritides affecting the jaw joints
- strain or overuse of the joints or soft tissues of the jaw
TMJ disorders can cause referred pain (1)
- it may present as an undifferentiated headache
- 55% of patients with chronic headache were found to have significant signs or symptoms of TMJ disorders
