Clinical features of blue breath-holding

Authoring team

As the name would suggest, the main feature is colour change with cyanosis. The heart rate falls less far than in the pallid breath-holding attacks.

The episodes are usually precipitated by scolding or by a temper tantrum in the infant, and are almost invariably self limiting. However, most parents feel unable to not intervene.
