Neuropathies are characterised by muscle weakness and atrophy. Fasciculations are a variable feature. The muscle weakness is in a distal or nerve root distribution. This contrasts with myopathies where the distribution is proximal and symmetrical(1).
There is usually sensory loss. This is not seen in myopathies.
