Risk factors for neonatal infection
Risk factors for neonatal infection are similar regardless of the infection, although there are some factors specific to particular infection. They include:
- maternal infection; particularly, colonisation with organisms such as group B streptococcus
- prolonged rupture of membranes
- low birth weight
- premature labour
