Cytochrome c is a protein component of the inner mitochondrial membrane that is involved with the electron transfer chain. It has an associated haem prosthetic group that is essential for accepting and donating electrons.

Cytochrome c carries electrons from ubiquinone dehydrogenase to cytochrome c oxidase within the electron transfer chain.
