Postpartum depression typically presents with the same symptoms as those of non-pregnancy related depression but some of these can be normal in the early postnatal period (e.g. sleep disturbance, tiredness, anxiety) These include: (1,2)

  • tearful
  • poor sleep and irritability
  • inability to cope
  • not enjoying the baby
  • possible suicidal thoughts
