Extradural causes
The causes of spinal cord compression which arise within the vertebral canal but outside the dura include:
- neoplasia: lymphoma, leukaemic infiltrate, metastases
- extradural abscess: e.g. as part of a staphylococcal septicaemia causing acute vertebral osteitis and subsequent vertebral collapse
- extradural cyst
